Here is a nice controversial one to start off with

The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.' - Ronald Reagan

As an alternative - have a look at a great film on the guardian online on 'the Barnet Spring' with a different take on the value of local government.

 Cheers, kevin

Hi Folks,

There are a few that stick in my mind:

1.  "We must become the change that we wish to see" (supposedly Gandhi but there is some debate about that)

2.  "It is often better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt" (Samuel Johnson)

3.  A similar one to No. 2 that I particularly like "A closed mouth gathers no foot!" (Anon)

4.  I think this is particularly apt too "In preparing for battle, I have always found that plans are useless but planning is indispensable" (Eisenhower)

Not sure if these are in the spirit of the MOOC but I have found them to be good touchstones in my own work from time to time.

"I know of no safe repository of the ultimate power of society but the people. And if we think them not enlightened enough, the remedy is not to take power from them, but to inform them by education." (Thomas Jefferson)

Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
