it is real late. and i am lazy.

i got all these emergent books for my birthday and one word I have
come across is sustitionary atonement (dan kimball says it is a core
value)

now, is their a non violent substitutionary atonement? or does all
substiution theory state that Jesus died cause God's rules and wrath
meant someone had to pay?

i could learn this stuff on my own but i prefer being spoon fed right
now.

i would suggest scot mcknight's book ' a community called atonement.'
for a non-violent substitutionary atonement check out the book edited
by John Sanders. the title has violence and atonement in it. Donny
Weaver is the guy I think of. We can plan to talk about atonement
sometime at cohort
peace

I have a paper that Sheri Adams (my favorite professor at GWU) wrote
about the cross. It presents another way of looking at atonement. I
will see if I can locate it and make a few copies in case someone
would like to partake. Bev.

I concur with Tripp's suggestion of McKnight's recent book.  I have been rebelling hard against penal substitution for several years, McKnight's book helped temper that and create some harmony with how I understand and live ataonement.

I wouldn't mind seeing that paper either Bev.

I put the book on my wishlist.

hey, where is everyone?

there are 23 people on the rumrunners. I know for sure 8 of ya'll.

some people you cannot recognize from their email addresses and I am
not sure if eric, sarah, or kevin are on the list.

it was just me and bev at the meeting but we had a good time.

i have trouble beleiving that all the people on this list that I have
not yet met have found places/people that are so awesome to be at
that not a single cohort meeting or abbey event was worth coming to.

i do realize that some people have busy lives. but but i have been to
5 cohort things so far and wish i could meet more of the people in
this area who are into the emergent conversation.
