to Emergent Colorado Cohort
Hello everyone. I hope that we will be able to pull together a cohort
meeting soon. Let's try to get something going. In the meantime, there
are a couple of opportunities heading our way that I want everyone to
be aware of.

First: Author, Randy Balmer
(http://www.barnard.columbia.edu/religion/balmer.htm) is touring this
summer to promote his new book, Thy Kingdom Come: How the Religious
Right Distorts Faith and Threatens America. An Evangelical Lament.

He will be in Denver on July 12, 7:30pm Tattered Cover, 1628 16th
Street, Denver, CO.
He has contacted Emergent Village to let them know he will be open to
events with local cohorts. I hope to work with Becky Pierson to see if
we can pull something off. At a bare minimum, I think as many of us as
possible should try to attend his book promotion event. I think his
willingness to support Emergent Village events should be recipricated.

Second: Dr. Daniel Grimes, from Oral Roberts University is also going
on a tour. His is to gather research about "emerging church." He is
hoping to meet with as many "emerging" type ministries as possible. He
is working on a survey that he is hoping many people will complete for
him. Dr. Grimes writes:

"The Spring 2006 semester has come to an end an I am beginning a two
semester sabbatical from Oral Roberts University to do some research
writing about "The Emergent Church" phenomena.

I started a new emergent ministry in Tulsa. Many would argue that Tulsa
of all places needs no more ministries. We are trying to reach those
who do not want to be Christian because of Christians.

During my sabbatical, I plan to travel across the US visiting various
expressions of the emergent movement to talk, listen, ask some
questions, and return home to reflect in writing about my
observations."

Dr. Grimes will be here around July 10. He states:

"Then I will have until July 10th to visit a number of ministries in
the Denver and Colorado Springs area.

I hope to visit you for some discussion and fellowship while I am in
your area. I would be happy to know of others that you would recommend
that I should speak with while I am there. If there is an emergent
cohort in your area, it would be great to have a meeting with a group."

If you would like to meet with him please let me know and I will send
you his contact info so that you can schedule the time. Maybe we can
pull a bunch together at one time to meet with him??

Hope everyone is doing well!! Looking forward to meeting up again.
