My name is Becky Pierson and I have been working with Randy Balmer's PR
guy to set up a chance for us to have a little more intimate
conversation with him. If you recall James sent us a post a while back
letting us know about the book Randy's new book, "Thy Kingdom Come: How
the Religious Right Distorts the Faith and Threatens America: An
Evangelical's Lament." (can't figure out how to underline with this
post so bear with me here!)
Here is some of what Tony Jones says about Randy and his book:
"Randy Balmer, preeminent American church scholar and all-around great
guy, is coming out with another book that is sure to garner lots of
attention and praise. It's just the kind of book that will capture the
imagination of many Emergent-types out there...Here's what he wrote me:
On July 3, Basic Books will release my new book, Thy Kingdom Come: How
the Religious Right Distorts the Faith and Threatens America: An
Evangelical's Lament . It's a full-throated critique of the Religious
Right, but it's written from the perspective of an insider who wants
evangelicals to reclaim their biblical and historical heritage. The
first line reads: "I write as a jilted lover."
This book sounds fantastic. Randy will be at the Tattered Cover
Bookstore on 16th and Wazee (1628 16th Street, across from Union
Station) on July 12th at 7:30 PM for a book signing and Q/A, after that
around 9 PM he will join us at Dixon's (just around the corner) an area
pub for drinks and a continued conversation. So, if you can't make the
