Edinburgh JMCS Winter Climbing Meets - 2025.

Hi,

there has been a bit of chat and WhatsApp traffic recently about organising some Ed JMCS Winter Climbing Meets. 

These are the dates & venues:

January Winter Climbers Meet - Fri 17 & Sat 18 nights at the Cabin for climbing on the Sat 18 & Sun 19 January (looking at booking calendar I see that the Thurs & Sun nights are free to). For enough space for all to have a comfy stay best limit the numbers to 8. It's a Club Meet so it's for Club members.

Whether climbing grade 2 or grade 9, all members welcome. Only requirement being you can keep both yourself and partner alive and unbroken on your intended climb. 

Being a meet early in the year it will be a chance for those newish to the Club to meet up with and get a chance to talk to like minded climbers.

If those interested WhatsApp or email me. I'll set up a WhatsApp group once I've got enough names and those attending can talk routes and ambitions and sort themselves into teams.

The next Ed JMCS Winter Climbers meet will be:

Fri 28 Feb & Sat 1 March at the Cabin for climbing on Sat/Sun 1^st & 2^nd March (again both the Thurs & Sun nights are free). again get in touch with myself if you wish to attend.

The two other winter dates for the diary are CIC Hut trips:

Edinburgh JMCS CIC Hut Booking for weekend of 22nd & 23rd March (so that'll be for the nights of 21 & 22nd). 6 places available. James Dalgarno is the organiser for that one, so contact him if you wish to attend.

CIC Hut - Joint SMC / Ed JMCS Meet - Weekend of 5 & 6 April. I am the organiser of this one. Again 6 places available for ourselves. Get in touch with myself if you wish to attend.  

With steely blue skies, thick ice and perfect neve all but guaranteed in our ever reliable winter playground who could not want to get involved ??

Hi Bruce (and all JMCS winter climbers),

Would you put me down for both of the JMCS weekends please. That is 17th/18th Jan and the 1st/2nd March. Are you booking people with partners arranged only or everyone pitch in and sort it out nearer the time? I would be happy to climb with anyone in the JMCS who needs a partner. I’m leading up to and including grade IV at present. Don’t mind easier on the January Meet as relatively early in the season. Have led plenty grade V but not recently enough to be reliable.

It will be great to have you on board. That's you booked on for those meets.

No need for a partner. We can get that sorted closer to the time.

Once I’ve got a few names I’ll set up a WhatsApp group for each meet meet and those without partners can get themselves sorted. Having a seasoned top performer such as yourself will be a bonus to the meet.

Half the point of the weekend, especially the first one, is for climbers who haven’t actually met before to get talking so as to form happy teams in the future.

Hi Bruce

I’m interested in the Meet on 28 Feb & 1 March.  As you know I’m a bit limited by my gammie ankles, but still reasonably fit (for an old guy). My last decent winter climbs were a few years ago with my son Malcolm, when routes included some Grade V at B. Udlaidh.  I was comfortably on the blunt end. I wouldn’t want to deprive a good climber of a place on this Meet, so if it’s over-subscribed feel free to bump me off it.
