Alo!!

pregunta: does the Hacienda have universal outlets for our electronic device chargers?

...and I'm assuming I don't need to bring extra batteries - but I thought I would ask about that too.

One week away...whoohoo!

Hey Tanya,

The Hacienda, along with the project house and other hostels where you may be staying, do have the same standard outlet as we use here at home.  No problems there.

As far as batteries go... alkaline batteries will be easy to find in the cities, Quito or Cayambe... but in Cangahua, the village where we spend most of our time, they are slightly more difficult to come by.  Last year I remember going on a multi-town quest to find AA's.  With that in mind, you may want to either bring a few from home or stock up while you're in Quito at the beginning of the project just to be sure.

See you super soon!

One thing about electrical outlets in Ecuador--tho the electricity is the same as in the States & Canada, the standard is a 2-plug outlet. This means that you´ll need a cheater adaptor for anything w- 3 plugs. In addition, many 2-plug devices in teh states are polarized--1 plug is widder than the other. If you try to plug it into the outlet you´re likely to ground the wider plug against the plate & get a big explosion (or at least that is what happened to me this morning). What I´ve done (and what I should have used this morning) is filed down the polarized plug on the adaptor and use that to get the plug to fit into the outlet.

Does that make sense??

So you are saying that they don't have a ground prong outlet down
there? Only 2 prongs will fit in the outlet?
I think I get what you mean, but just making sure.
Thanks for the heads up!

Jessica, that is correct. Your local electronics store or hardware
store should have some adaptors for this that cost $1 or less; I am
bringing a couple of extra ones just to be sure there are enough, so
no worries if you don't have any.
