Before I booked my ticket I wanted to see if anyone was taking any
trips after the program? I was thinking about going to the galapagos
islands thought it would be a really cool experience. Was anyone else
interested in a short trip afterwards?

love,

I looked into some trips to the Galapagos and they are all really expensive some more than others depending on what you want to do there.  I'm not sure how much you want to spend but the dive trips are at least 3,000 and that is the cheapest one.  Another thing, you need to make reservations pretty soon because they fill up quickly.  I heard that you should have ay least $500 to get there too.  If you know of any good deals let me know. Thanks and good luck.

Hey girls,

just a word on the galapagos.  The boat trips don't always fill up, especially in August.  You can actually book last minute trips to the Galapagos at a discounted rate from Quito just a few days before you go.  It's not too hard to do, I did it a couple summers ago.  It's till pretty expensive but the Galapgos are just one of those places that's worth every penny.  So keep it in mind if you have some time to kill at the end of the project.  We can talk more about that later though!

Cheers,

Morgan

Hi Morgan,

I was wondering how many days do you think a good visit to the
galapagos should take? Cause I want to know what date I should set my
return flight home if I do go to the galapagos, which I'd like to!
Thanks.

Hi Anita,

When I went I took a five day boat trip which I thought was a good amount of time. I got to see several different islands, got plenty of snorkelling in and took more pictures than I thought possible.  There are also three day trips but I would recommend at least five days on the islands you may also want to be a little more flexible if you're not buying your trip in advance because you may have to wait a couple of days to get on a trip. I'd say add 7-8 days minimum but if you have more time add it, you'll find Quito a cheap and fun place to hang out, not to mention all the stuff you can do in the area. You'll be able to pass the time.  Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Morgan

Hello Morgan,

I am wondering if you had to pay more to stay longer? I am considering also visiting the Galapagos Islands but I want to know how the living arrangement works. How does the living situation work once the trip is over?

Thanks!
Lauren

Hey there Lauren,

If you decide to stay longer you're on your own  so you'll need to find a hostel in Quito and pay for your own meals and transportation. Things in Quito are pretty cheap relative the US so it's not too hard to live without spending tons.  The staff can give you recommendations on where to stay etc. but once the project is over there's no guarantee that one of us will be there to look out for you.  I'm sure there will be people from the project staying in the area who would be willing to help you but you will be independent should you decide to stay after.

Cheers,
Morgan

Hey Morgan,
About the galapagos, if a plane ride from quito goes through guayaquil
to get to the islands, would it be easier to have my return flight to
the US depart from guayaquil instead of quito?
Thanks!
Anita

Hey Anita,

It's up to you.  If it's cheaper then sure go for it.  But flying back to Quito from Guayaquil only takes an hour so it doesn't change the time too much.

cheers,

Morgan
