Hi,

sorry, I forgot to ask this in my last post. My parents want to know
if there's a phone number they can call to reach me in ecuador in case
of emergency. Is there one I can give them? Thanks!

Hi Laura,
I'm not sure what the official emergency contact is going to be, but I'll give you my phone number in Ecuador.  I can always pass on messages if you`re not immediately around.
The number is: 098325033
You´ll have to dial 011 plus the country code of 593 and then drop the first zero if you're calling from the States.
And I'm going to stress: this is an EMERGENCY number only.  If you want, you can always buy a phone in Ecuador for your own personal use.  It's expensive to call internationally, but students have done so in the past.  Phones cost approx. $40 plus air time.

Hi Laura,

There will be a number of project cell phones that you can call.  Allison's phone works, here's my number as well, 011-593-097652593.  Also the directors will have numbers you can email back home when you arrive here.  Again, I'm with Allison, this is only for emergencies, you'll have access to Porta stores which offer reasonably priced international calling for your entire stay on the project.

Cheers,

Morgan

Hey Laura,

Depending on your service provider, your own cell phone might work in
Ecuador. I have Verizon, and my phone has rung a couple times down
here. Obviously there would be roaming charges, but in case of an
emergency you know you can be reached.
Alternately, if your phone uses a SIM card you might be able to buy
one here and just use your own phone.

Peace
Rallie

Hello again,
Minor comment re: Morgan's message:  you have to drop that first zero (0) before the final 8 numbers.  The call won't go through otherwise.
See you Saturday!
