Hey Laura,
Depending on your service provider, your own cell phone might work in
Ecuador. I have Verizon, and my phone has rung a couple times down
here. Obviously there would be roaming charges, but in case of an
emergency you know you can be reached.
Alternately, if your phone uses a SIM card you might be able to buy
one here and just use your own phone.
