Camp Burton Retreat:
  • The senior orchestra retreat to Camp Burton was a success.
  • Approximately 16 hours of dedicated focus to the six concertos was helpful and will show when the orchestra plays on June 12th.  The senior orchestra set a single day record on Saturday with 10 hours of practice.
  • Great work everyone!

School Concert June 12th:
  • Certificates - Mr. Smith will be working to get certificates created for all student musicians who will be leaving Eckstein at the end of this school year.  These will hopefully be ready to present at the concert.  Alternatively they may be presented at the year-end potluck (date/time TBD).

  • Programs - Given the unique works to be played and as a way of showing the amount of effort that the students have put into making this a great concert, Mr. Smith is looking to create a nicer concert program from the current photocopied style that has been used recently.  Mr. Smith is looking for both a creative person to assist in designing as well as looking for a good printer.  If you know of anyone who might be interested in helping, please contact Mr. Smith.  Mr. Smith will be initially looking to the parent of one of the performers to see if they can help.

  • Stage clean-up - The stage and auditorium could use a good going over before the concert on June 12th.  We are looking to clean the area on Wednesday June 11th from 6 to 8 p.m.   We will sweep, dust, move, and generally make the area look as good as we can for the concert the next evening.  If you or anyone you know is interested in helping out please take a moment and sign-up at the SignUp Genius form, here.

  • Flowers - The stage will have approximately 66 pots of white potted mums lining the edge of the stage.  All of these will be available to purchase before the concert so that people can take them home and plant.  If you are interested in purchasing one or more of these, please review the order form that is sent home with your student.  We've attached the order form just in case it didn't make it's way home, or feel free to go to the Orchestra web site, here, (look for the document labeled "Stage Flowers").  The deadline for submitting the order is May 29th.  Each pot is $7.00.  Please make checks payable to "Eckstein Orchestra".  Payments and filled out order forms should be stapled together and placed in the order box in the orchestra room.  The students will know where it is (big box with holiday wrapping paper covering).

  • Time - The current schedule is as follows and is subject to change:
    • 6:00 - 6:45 - Beginning, Junior, Intermediate, and Community Orchestras
    • 6:45 - 7:00 - Intermission I
    • 7:00 - 7:45 - Sr. Orchestra - Telemann, Stamitz, Mozart
    • 7:45 - 8:00 - Intermission II
    • 8:00 - 9:00 - Sr. Orchestra - Dvorak, Bruch, Saint-Saens
    • 9:00 - 9:15 - Intermission III
    • 9:15 - 9:45 - Sr. Orchestra - Elgar, Tchaikovsky

  • Doors/Food/Intermissions - As always we will need help to make the performance go smoothly and to make it as enjoyable as possible for anyone attending.  Because of the expected length of the concert and the intermissions, some light snack food will be available during the intermissions.  All of this will take volunteers.  If you are interested in helping out please signup here.
    • We will need a couple of people to monitor the doors.
    • During the intermissions we will need a couple of people to keep an eye on the food and to help clean-up after the intermission is over.
Summer:
  • With school coming to an end and preparation for the new school year beginning, it is time to sign-up for music camps.  Mr. Smith and Mr. Escobedo will be offering music camps for orchestra and band.  If interested please contact either Mr. Smith or Mr. Escobedo.  There are also other music camps around the region that you may want to sign up for too.
  • Mr. Smith is beginning to schedule interviews of incoming students.
