Dear Orchestra parents,
Some of you may had attended tonight's meeting(s) on the SPS board's
growth boundaries proposal. As you know, if the board approves the
latest proposal, many of your 6th or 7th grade students will be yanked
from Eckstein, to
attend the new Jane Addams Middle School next
year (2014-2015), where there is no music program in place--and certainly
not of the caliber as with Mr. Smith! Furthermore, it would be a highly difficult
transition for a middle school teen to change schools at this stage,
on many levels (social, academic, commute, etc.)
If you are concerned about this, there is not too much that we can do except
to show our concern and disapproval of their latest (and final) proposal by
showing up in great numbers to the Nov. 6th
School Board meeting. Parents will be there with signs showing
our unified disapproval of the Board's latest proposal. If you absolutely cannot
attend, then, please send emails voicing your disapproval, (in an appropriate
manner), to all the members of the school board, including the superintendent.
This would be our last chance to voice our opposition, as the Board can still
make amendments on the 6th. After that, the Board will cast their final vote
on Nov. 20th.
For additional information please visit the SPS site on the proposed growth
boundaries.
