Subject: [Eckstein Orchestra] Parent's Meeting February 11 @ 7:00 PM

Reminder:

Tuesday February 11 at 7:00 p.m. is the monthly Orchestra Parent's Meeting.

Super Fun Topics Included but not limited to:

January Events Review:

* Camp Casey and Icicle Creek (both get two-thumbs up!)
* School annual budgets (best avoided like the plague)
* End of Semester (three starred selection)

Upcoming Events:
This is THE smack down between two competing events (this will make the Super Bowl seem like children's play).
Western Washington University vs. Gresham

* Which will get the nod?
* Which event will respond to Eckstein?
* Who will be adjudicating WWU?
* Curious minds want to know!

The ONLY way to find out about this and many more topics is by attending the meeting.

One hour (plus travel time) is all that we ask. 'Cmon - you know you wanna attend.

It seemed last night that Mr. Smith was strongly in favor of going to Gresham (3/7)  instead of WWU (3/14).

This morning he decided to attend both!

He plans to do the following:

1)  March 7.  Mt. Hood C.C. Northwest Orchestra Festival (Gresham, Oregon) - Only the Senior and Chamber groups will attend.  There will be one 47 passenger coach from Puget Sound Coach Lines.  My estimate is 33 students and 3 chaperones plus Mr. Smith.  The coach is $1,800 and the registration fee is $550 (includes late fees for 2 groups) for a total of $2,350.

2) March 14.  WWU Orchestra Festival (Bellingham) - The Senior, Intermediate, Junior, Beginner, and Chamber groups will attend, BUT the Beginner group will only observe. There will be three 48 passenger coaches from Chinook.  My estimate is 124 students and 11 chaperones plus Mr. Smith.  The coaches are $3,633 and the registration fee is $1,000 for a total of $4,633.

Field Trip Permission Slips for both trips are being drafted for distribution no later than this Friday.  Co-pay information will be included for students and chaperones.  The Slips will be uploaded to the Orchestra website as well. Time is of the essence since next week is Mid-Winter break.

Parent/Guardian Help Needed

A) A Day of Trip Coordinator is needed for Gresham (March 7).  I/m choosing to coordinate the WWU (March 14) trip, but will not be able to do both since I have to...work.  The coordinator job would include taking attendance, assigning chaperones to student groups, dealing with the various issues that arise with this type of trip, as well as being a chaperone.

B) Chaperones (and...is there a Doctor or Nurse willing to attend?)

C) Medical professionals are needed to hold medications for students.  If this is you, please consider participating...you'll get to ride in the front of the bus.

Gresham.  3 needed.  Last night, 3 signed up (Tom C., Brian J., and Reuben L.) with 3 "maybes" (Leah F., Shari K., and Larry P.).  Since the plan has changed, some of these folks may want to switch (or may want to do both) in which they should re-confirm with me .  Hopefully someone from this list will agree to be the Coordinator.

WWU.  11 are needed (Mr. Smith could be included, but he has enough to worry about).  I count as one, so 10 need to be recruited.  An enticement, the food is better at WWU, plus Eckstein is defending the Best Performance Gold Cup it won 2 years in a row.

Important.  You will need to have a current volunteer form filed with the school.  If you don't, you'll need to hurry since it needs to be submitted in time to allow for the background check.  The form can be found at the link below:

Please respond to me if you are interested in the Gresham Coordinator job or being a Chaperone.

Thank you for your interest.

Best regards,
David Tanaka
