Social Support and Help-Seeking Behaviors in Individuals with Eating Disorders

Purpose of Research: In this research, the experimenters are interested in the methods by which you seek social support, and the factors that contribute to the methods you choose. You will be asked to answer a variety of questions, including several popular measures used in psychological research.
Duration of Participation: Your participation should take no more than 20 minutes.
Requirements: You must be at least 18 years of age to participate in this study. You must also have had experienced symptoms of (or been diagnosed with) an eating disorder.
Risks to the Individual: Minimal: The risks are not greater than those ordinarily encountered in daily life, although you may feel emotionally uncomfortable in various stages of the experiment.
Confidentiality: Strict confidentiality of the data will be upheld. Your responses will not be associated with any identifying information; your name will not be attached to your responses at any point. The data may be used for future research. The anonymous data will be stored electronically by Dr. Wesselmann for three years after the data have been published. Only the research team will have access to the anonymous data. The project's research records may be inspected by the Illinois State University Institutional Review Board or its designees, and by Illinois State University to ensure that participants' rights are being protected.
Voluntary Nature of Participation: You do not have to participate in this research project. If you agree to participate you can withdraw your participation at any time without penalty. You do not have to answer any question you find objectionable.
