Green Building Code for Public Buildings

to ESTF-2 New/Existing Buildings and Land Use
Mountain View demands LEED Silver certification for all new municipal buildings and renovation projects > 5,000 sqft.
The report by Steve ect  from 2009 shows that LEED Silver construction is not costing more, supported by the Santa Clara County Cities Association.

This was a ESTF- 1 requirement - but also that this is increased to LEED Gold after 5 years (therefore by 2013) This has not happened.

Should we demand this?

I just saw that it is part of ESAP-3 for 2016/2017 " Adopt LEED Gold as the minimum standard for new city facilities and city building renovations over 10,000 sqft"

It is NOT ACTIVE (lead department: Steve) (=not even in process)

Steve asked us to help him implement the items in ESAP-3 , eg. via providing GHG emission reduction potentials.

Is the new building subgroup working on building code strengthening for Public buildings?

Hi Ines,

Thanks so much for sharing. Yes, I was working on a recommendation requiring LEED Platinum or ZNE for all new or major renovations of City buildings.

I support that the City should only build LEED Platinum, ZNE or Living Building Challenge for all City buildings.
