Dear Betty,

Thanks for a terrific presentation today to our building/landuse working group.

Here is some information about standards for green schools in California:

The Collaborative for High Performance Schools  is a nonprofit established in 1999. Their CHPS standard is used by many school districts.

California State Department of Education facility design.

California Code of Regulations, Title 5, sections 14001-14036 on School Facilities Construction

Here are educational specifications from the State Department of Education published in 1997. Some school properties are owned by the State of California and managed by the State Controller's office.

Schools are managed separately from cities but benefit from proactive collaboration with cities and utilities as they are often one the largest energy customers in a municipality.
