Dear all,
please find attatched herewith the schematic design for the bamboo house as proposed by Habitat. Please post this on the blog for review by all.
Design design description,
- This has a 10 ft by 14 ft floor plan which can be divided into 2 rooms. The bamboo frame on the 14ft long side (14 X 6 ft) will be pre-fabricated panel, either pre-fitted or with holes and markings for easy fitting at site. Split bamboo will be used for roof frame and installed on-site.
- The ties will be that of bamboo nails or green bamboo strips.
- Upto 1 ft, strong wall can be built of mud or stone, whatever is available on site. Bamboo mat, reed, straw, grass (available locally) can be used as backing for mud wall.
- Bamboo mats is used to cover the bamboo frame, with a layer of heavy-duty plastic sheet.
The bamboo house would be easy to assemble and dismatle as well. We propose that the bamboo be treated, so that when the people would move to their homeland, they can actually take the frames with them and can set up their homes.
At the Monday meeting, Mr. Ram from OCHA said that in one of the camps near the river, the people have actually used the grass found there (khar) to insulate the camps. If it is true, then that idea can be implemented on other camp sites.
I hope people will send feedback, so that we can improve this design if necessary.
Sincerely,
Rashmi
