Glad you checked your records as it does now appear that Darkis lived longer than thought. With Martha's 1805 witness record and your member of the Old Union Church 1806 record along with Lewis Patrick's acknowledgement of fraud, I would say that Darkis did live to at least the 1820 Census. John's household showed a similar aged woman in it, which at this point we could take as Darkis.

At this point it is time to start putting together the rough line of John and his children with Darkis and Polly Thompson with the supporting documents. There is so much misinformation on this John and his family, it will be good to finally get it all corrected. I have a copy of John's mention in the SC Rev War Patriots and they list Polly Thompson marriage as 1791 too. I think the major hurdle of Pension apps when they become so large, order of the pages in the app and missing some information because not all the documents in the file are read. I could kick myself for not catching that document from Lewis and for the life of me, don't know why I didn't print it.

If you would share the Will you typed up, I can post the complete document on the main site. You would have to scan it and email it to me, I can run it through OCR to digitize and create a file since it is typed. I have seen plenty of abstracts of it, but not the actual Will itself. You can email it to me directly or attach it to a reply to the list. The list has the ability to receive attachments.

I will pick up where I left off and continue abstracting out the Pension app of which I already have some of it posted on the site. It would be nice to find the Lewis P. bible record complete too, but that can be a back burner thing for now. I also need to see about a chart I found where the death of Edith unknown, wife of Henry Phillips, b. 1739-d. Jul 1792.

Next hurdle is trying to figure out if Henry was really his father and was he related to the other Phillips families of Halifax Co. and how. There was a William, Lewis and later a Henry in Halifax. I think I might have a line on John Phillips and his sister Mary of Halifax who agreed to Lewis Phillips as their guardian in 1786. They might have both gone to SC and John might have been a John A. Phillips. Need to investigate that some more.

Thanks for all the information Doug. I will update the rough line for John on the website. You have lots of great information on the children of John.

One question, I think the info came from Martha. Barnaba / Barna  / Barnabus? Didn't Darkis have a brother named Barnabus Hamilton? I added the Barnabus to the site as an alternative spelling.

Tom,

Yes, Darkis had a brother named Barnabas according to Guy Hamilton's will.  Other children were:  Sarah, Duncan, Barden, Unity, Edith, Nancy and John.  Executors were John Phillips and Ann Hamilton (his wife).
