Here's a post that I hope is more sociological analysis of politcs & religion than mere partisanship.

It's interesting to keep an ear to how "The Left"  criticizes the various contenders for Republican nomination for Presidency.  When they criticize Giuliani and Romney, perhaps Thompson,  in my view, they come across like the great social gospel tradition of the church,  like those from Sojourner Truth to Desmond Tutu to Oscar Romero.  They flatly have the moral high ground.  When the left criticizes Huckabee, on the other hand, snipes Christianity, per se, occasionally slip across the screen. That is what I find fascinating. It seems a much more honest expression of Southern Baptism-ism than we've seen on display the past 8 years-- such as having social-policy liberals articulate Republicanism at the RNC 2004.  I think part of the difference between the Republicans may be between positions that could reasonably be pinned to the tradition of the church, and being laissez-faire on everything. Somehow it's more refreshing to have the liberal pundits show their true stripes, too.

All the more to think what will happen if one is elected!  Congress has the lowest rating ever, even more then the president.

Yet the liberal say they believe in God to!
