Neighbors:
The following message was sent to me by Jules James of Lake Union Mail
regarding a action that SDOT is contemplating on the corner of Minor
and Lynn. Please read and write SDOT today!
Friends and Neighbors:
Please engage your typewriter. We need many words of displeasure
flooding City Hall in all due haste.
Seattle's Department of Transportation, Street Use Division, has
proposed to install a 4' x 2' metal box on a concrete pad on the
northwestern corner of Minor and Lynn.
The other three corners of Minor and Lynn are already concrete. The
other three corners are semi-maintained by tenants and a condo
association. The northwestern corner is where homeowner Mary Hanson
has created a delightful outdoor space. This fat metal box will plop
square in the middle of her meticulously maintained planting strip.
According to rumor, the City's project manager sited the box because
he wanted to dig soft dirt rather than concrete.
This box is a CSO monitoring station. It measures the occasional
discharge of stormwater into Lake Union. The box could be placed
downhill, uphill or south of Mary's planting strip and be of no
disruption to anyone.
Paul Kimani(
paul....@seattle.gov) is the project supervisor.
Elisabeth Sheldon (
elizabet...@seattle.gov) is his supervisor.
We need many e-mails over the next couple of days to both of them
opposing the proposed location of this sewage sarcophagus in Mary's
planting strip. We need volume, not eloquence: "Don't pave Mary's
Garden!" is good enough.
It is government being lazy at the cost of community. We are still in
the comment period, so letters now will be very effective.
Please walk by the Lynn and Minor intersection, then please write City
Hall in opposition to this wholly unnecessary attack upon beauty.
Thanks,
Jules
