Hi All, 

 

While we all knew the overturning of Roe v. Wade was imminent, nothing could quite prepare us for the finality of this week's ruling and the permanent dismantling of women’s rights that have been protected for the past half-century.  This ruling reveals how the new Supreme Court is prepared to roll back basic protections in all areas of life, from gun safety to climate to personal privacy.

 

When feeling this helpless, we all want to know what we can do.  The truth is, we have a long hard fight ahead of us.  And the rights that are getting dismantled at the federal level will now have to be fought for in the states, one by one.

 

To that end, we are recommending a set of down-ballot races that will be essential to this battle: State Legislatures (who create laws that can protect or abolish women’s reproductive rights), State Supreme Courts (who have final say in whether those laws can take effect), and Secretaries of State (who can limit or broaden access to voting for those offices).

 

And as the January 6 hearings revealed, these were the same offices that Trump and his supporters appealed to to overturn the 2020 Presidential election results.
