Hi Energy Action Team,

I spoke to you last year about the PUC and how to influence the electricity sector, specifically Pacific Power that serves most of Corvallis. Now is a time that you can speak up. The Public Utility Commission will hold a Public Comment Hearing on the proposal on Tuesday, May 24 at 6pm. You can email comments or attend the hearing via Zoom (more below).

Pacific Power has proposed a 14% rate increase for Oregon households. It appears that there are no big decarbonization fights in this rate increase, but there are equity and profit margin issues that will set the stage for future rate decisions, and keeping electricity affordable is a big component of a just energy future, particularly electrification efforts!

Oregon Citizens' Utility Board is opposing many proposals in the rate increase, like increasing shareholder profits. See the attached blog posts for info and the Google Doc with some further information that can inform your comments.

Here are specifics about how to participate in the May 24 PUC public hearing: Google Doc on Pacific Power Rate Increase

Folks might also want to attend the CUB Annual Meeting on Wednesday, May 25 at 6:00. There will be a presentation, Decarbonizing Communities with several speakers. Register here to get the Zoom link!

Best,
Christy
