Last week, we did a deep dive into California to identify what's driving high electricity costs for consumers. Hint: there's a cost shift, but it's not what you think. Many people have been drawing the wrong lessons from California's energy policy and we hope to set the record straight so that leaders in other states avoid repeating the Golden State's mistakes.

On July 17th, I'll moderate a virtual panel featuring climate activist Bill McKibben and other climate and utility experts in conversation about how monopoly utilities block climate progress — and what we can do to fight back. Hope to see you there.

Also, it's with great sadness that we share the passing of ILSR co-founder David Morris. He was an inspiration, a leader, and a mentor to me and many others at ILSR and beyond. He will be sorely missed.

Keep your energy local,
John

P.S. ILSR Independent Business Initiative's Ron Knox penned a piece for The Nation about the rise of trustbusting at the state level in the face of federal regulatory chaos.
