Hi, Energy Action Team members,

I thought some of you might be interested in knowing what the volunteer-based climate group in Ashland is doing to educate and support residential electrification. Please see below.

THE PATH TO CLEANER AIR - ELECTRIC APPLIANCES
INVENTORY  →  PLAN  →  INSTALL  →  CELEBRATE  →  SHARE YOUR JOURNEY

Join us for another FREE Zoom support group for Ashland homeowners who are transitioning from methane (natural gas) to electric heating/cooling, water heating, and cooking appliances.

Register Here for the Thursday, June 16 Support Call at 7 p.m. - with energy experts & neighbors who are on this journey.

To meet our city’s Climate Energy Action Plan goals we must rapidly and significantly decrease emissions from methane, which leaks from extraction to appliance and causes global warming and has health effects.

Benefits of an all-electric home include:

  • Improved indoor and outdoor air quality - especially important for kids and those with asthma or other breathing issues
  • Reduced global warming emissions
  • Potentially lower energy costs
  • More comfortably and efficiently cooled and heated homes

THIS MONTH’S SPECIAL FOCUS: Figuring out what gas equipment you have and what to replace first.

As well as taking general questions on how to transition to an all-electric home, we will help homeowners to inventory their appliances - the first step to determine your plan to electrify your home.

To get the most out of this session, before this meeting, please try to determine:

  • The type of appliances you have (gas, electric, hybrid, other).
  • The age of each appliance (usually determined by the serial number).

Here’s a short video overview of types of heaters (please ignore the comments about thermostats, which are not pertinent to this discussion).

HOW TO DETERMINE WHAT SYSTEMS YOU HAVE AND HOW OLD THEY ARE

What you need:

  1. A flashlight
  2. A  smart phone camera to take photos of labels or serial numbers
  3. A sheet of paper to record your  information.

TO DETERMINE THE AGE OF YOUR HOT WATER HEATER & HVAC SYSTEM

  1. Survey the equipment you have.
  2. Note brands, model numbers, dates and serial numbers.
  3. Use this link to determine the age of your heating and cooling (furnace) systems and hot water heaters by using a serial number. (Choose “HVAC Index” or “Water Heater Index.”)
