ACTION: Please sign the public petition in support of a strong Climate Protection Plan (CPP)
REQUEST: We are asking local League members throughout Oregon to sign the petition in support of this critical rulemaking and build momentum for stronger Climate action through the CPP. [You don't have to be a member to sign the petition. -Brian]
DEADLINE: ASAP, DEQ comment period is ending August 21, 2024
DEQ may extend the comment period into September. Look for additional information in the Legislative report. We expect the next public hearing as early as September 4, 2024.

BACKGROUND: The courts blocked enforcement of the Climate Protection Plan because of a clerical error in December, 2023. Now, just as the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is trying to reinstate the program, Oil and Gas industry executives are aiming to weaken it by trying to lower the greenhouse gas reduction goals for Oregon’s heaviest polluters.
