Hi all,

My research team is running E-Prime 3.0 with our Noldus software, so that we can get accurate timepoints and other data from E-Prime along with behavioral observations. However, Noldus only allows us to choose one single E-Prime file per observation, meaning that we will have to combine all of our separate experiments into one master experiment. Does anyone know how to merge experiments together so they run one right after the other? Or does anyone have experience with E-Prime and Noldus and know how to run multiple E-Prime experiments in the same observation?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sincerely,
Gabrielle Fabrikant

Hi Gabrielle,

Well, I don’t know about Noldus – and their website isn’t too informative, they provide custom software so who knows? – but combining E-Prime experiments into one is fairly straightforward. Open experiment 1 in E-Prime, then double click on experiment 2, so that two E-Studio windows are now open. Move them on the screen so they’re both visible, then drag the objects from the one window to the other. Copy-pasting also works. If any objects are double, E-Prime will ask you what to do (overwrite, rename them, etc). The one thing you have to look out for is whether there’s any custom code (inline) using global variables that will work in unforeseen ways (e.g. if you have multiple trial counters, block counters, and so on, you’d need to reset them).

You can also first make an ‘ExperimentList’ added to a new experiment, then create to sessionprocs (exp1proc, exp2proc), and drag everything from exp1 to exp1proc, everything from 2 to exp2proc. Keeps things clean, plus allows you to counterbalance experiment order and such between participants!

Hope that helps!

Best,

Michiel

Hi Michiel,

That is extremely helpful, thank you so much!! I wasn't aware that you could counterbalance through E-Prime. How does this work?

Thank you again,
Gabrielle
