Sir,

Indian roads are getting choked with the ever-increasing load of vehicular traffic. In the traffic composition of vehicles used, two-wheeler carries the highest count. The sale of it alone accounts for more than the combined sales of all other type of transport vehicles in the country. In comparison with other transport vehicles, specifically with cars a 2-wheeler is the most efficient vehicle in terms of road-space usage, fuel economy & convenience. As a policy we must encourage & promote its usage over car. The large space occupied by cars driven/occupied by a single person is contributing a lot in traffic issues.

One of the promotion activities may include designing light weight and exclusive bridges suitable for bikes only to cross over at busy junctions. With the latest technological advancement construction of such comparatively narrow bridges can be completed at a high-speed i.e. in few weeks only. Such a scenario which can reduce the journey time of a bike would give strong reasons to promote its usage over cars. This in turn would unlock more road space thus overall improving average traffic speed. This could be a win-win situation for everyone. There can be several intersections where making a full-fledged wide bridge for all vehicles in not possible but making narrow bridges for bikes only may be a possibility. Such bridges can be made with little space and cost and serve a major part of road traffic. More, specifically this can transform traffic movement in upcoming tier-II cities.

It is requested that this may please be given a thought for incorporation in all existing & future urban mobility projects.

For consideration, please.

Regards,

S K Goyal
