The dusty environment has become a norm for city life. The dust level in cities, specifically areas near roads is significantly higher. It has destroyed the beauty of greenery on footpaths & side lanes of roads. The graded response system to fight pollution has also blamed dust settled on leaves as a cause of increasing pollution. With every air movement this dust flies in air. Accordingly, as a step the fire engines are given the responsibility of cleaning trees & other greenery to fight pollution during high pollution days.
The cleaning of trees & shrubs by the firefighting engines has proved to be extremely inefficient in terms of water consumption. The nozzles available with fire tenders is not at all suitable for cleaning trees and most of the water goes waste giving a very low productivity.
It is, therefore, suggested that Council for Scientific & Industrial Research may be advised to develop a water efficient shower which can be used for (i) cleaning trees with minimal water and (ii) Cleaning & watering shrubs. The same machine can also be used even when pollution level is not so high but leaves require some cleaning to give a fresh look to travelers.
