Dear Sir,
Public service in India is often perceived as a comfortable form of employment, characterized by numerous holidays, liberal leave entitlements, and uninterrupted annual increments. Because of these perceived advantages, there is always significant pressure and competition for securing a government job. A recent news article even suggested that India ranks among the highest in the world in terms of the number of holidays observed.
As a society, we sometimes appear to have conditioned ourselves to believe that unless a holiday is declared for every occasion, we are not being sufficiently inclusive or secular. Such assumptions, however, are overdue for careful & objective review and require revalidation. Its high time to re-examine these perceptions and reassess some of the prevailing practices.
In this context, I have compiled a few observations on the following selected topics for your consideration:
Leave Management, Holidays, and Working Time (1-11)
LTC Entitlement (12)
Pension (13-18)
Increment Cycle (19-21)
Children Education Allowance (22)
Local Journey Reimbursement (23)
Please acknowledge.
Warm regards,
S K Goyal
