I know this may be superfluous given the fact that we all have account
on C4L and probably accounts on some local meetup pages, so let me
know whether you think this will be useful.

I've never used Google Groups before, but I will say that I have an
addiction to Facebook and would be more likely to see updates etc. if
we had a Group on there instead.

That's a fair point. That did cross my mind before creating this, but
I settled on google for a few reasons:(1) I think this gives us a
little more flexibility with creating the page and seems like an
independent initiative rather than one out of a million facebook
groups, and (2) people can control their communication preferences.
(3) To be honest I am not too familiar with the features on here, and
was curious to try it out.

Do others agree/disagree? The purpose of this is to help us interact,
so I am supportive of whatever everyone thinks is the best tool for
that.

Will having to join/create a facebook profile deter anyone who doesn't
already have an account? Is that any different than this?

That's my big concern with the DuPage Libertarians as well.  E-mail can get intrusive, but getting people to join whatever group you create can be difficult.  Maybe that's just a way of figuring out who's really committed.

I don't know much about it except all the problems they and MySpace and other such sites had at their startups with viruses a worms and things like that.  I also don't like joining things if I don't have to.  I might look into it, but, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth after I've a compromised computer a couple of times.

So, yes, that would tend to deter me.  That's not to say that maybe nowadays my fears lack legitimacy.  I'm just real leery of these things.

Looks like I'm still living in a cave.  I don't recollect having an account on C4L.  Might have to look at that as well.  And, for what it might be worth I also hate blogsites.  I find them to be unorganized and confusing.  So, I don't ever bother with blogs either.

Anyway, that's my two cents worth, and, no, I don't have a better idea at this time.

Bill

I think the perfect solution just came to me: let the market decide.
I have just created a facebook group as well. If nothing else, we
should be able to use it as a marketing tool. Let's see what happens!

Well, I tried to sign up on Facebook four times and the damned system
wouldn't take any name I put in and it kept erasing information for each
retry. So I guess I'm out of their Mickey Mouse system rather than play
their stupid games. What an annoying procedure.

You're awesome Bill. Google groups will have to do!

Another idea has come to mind. As I mentioned at our last meeting,
one of my concerns is the number of disconnected liberty groups in the
area, and I think we can use this group to rectify that.

Rather than having this be another Campaign for Liberty group (since
we now have three including the actual C4L site and the facebook
group) what about making this a more general "Dupage Liberty" site,
and create individual pages that each subgroup can use to market their
own groups, initiatives, and websites? For instance, we create a page
that has information on C4L and a link to our calendar,
http://www.campaignforliberty.com/usa/IL/DuPage/, etc, a page can be
dedicated to the DuPage libertarians, and so forth.

Thoughts?
