Welcome behind the scenes at EAT

EXCITEMENT

It is at the point we need operating funds.  EAT is very new.  3 months from the first idea to the now were we are doing a lot and we have a way forward to do more.

Still I feel like a public radio announcer during a pledge drive, you know glad to do it but really wanting to just get back to the news.

Big News for us is that we are in our first fund raising campaign, day 2 of a 44 day campaign to raise $12,000.  I should just leave the link now, ok I will, I was told you have to ask for donations 3 times in each message, ugh!

Let me ramble on for a second about STARTSOMEGOOD.com. They, themselves are as new as yesterday, 2/28/11 was their first day.

They are something new on the web, a “crowdfunding” website for people trying to do a social good.

We are very proud to be one of their initial projects.  Once you are there take a look around at what others besides EAT Good Food San Diego are doing. Giving even a small amount helps:

(That’s 2!!)

So, if you haven’t seen the newest blog post take a look and let me know what you think.  I always need to know where your interests lie and whether we are doing the job well.

We are supporting EAT volunteer Leslie Goldman, the Enchanted gardener and blogger http://plantyourdream.net/ , who is working at the Hillcrest Market to promote the use of biodegradable plates and utensils.

We want to bring his idea to all the Farmers Markets in the County.

We like Leslie’s choice of products from sugar by-product from earthsmart through Biosmart.

We are investigating other products as well and will produce a video (of, course) about it.

We are also producing a video on CSA programs.  We believe they are a great solution in many cases.

We have begun a study on how we get food to and how we can best get food to the food banks.

We’ve done some background work for a few of you and were glad to do it.  We are here to help

.

We are producing our recurring “Fresh & Tasty” segment and our Monthly Harvest show.

We are also starting our cooking show and are looking for a foodie host/chef and some volunteer chefs and restaurants to participate.  (Get in touch if you have someone in mind.)

And a big thing, we have begun to design out permanent website home that we hope will become a touchstone for good, clear, easy to find and use information for the people of San Diego.  This is a thing we do need funding to complete (notice the segue to the 3rd fundraising campaign mention? Well…

.

Let me complete this newsmail by talking about MEMBERSHIP in EAT Good Food San Diego.

I sent you this second of our NewsMail issues because I already know you are concerned about San Diego or good, tasty healthy food or both. I’ll keep sending it to you unless you ask me not, too.

(Just reply to the email with an empty email you can opt out.)

Membership is a different thing.

EAT Good Food San Diego is a community service center.  Our service is extended to everyone in the community for free or with a suggested donation.  Being a part of EAT is by volunteered donation and/or volunteered service.

.

We have various levels of participation (here comes the last fundraising reference!)

Kind of a long way around to saying: Please help!

Glad to share a two way road  with you, to and from the market and the garden.

See you down the road!

And as my dog, Koa sez:

Do Good. Feel Well. Be Happy!
