I forgot to leave a copy of my Craig note.
O and, no there is (to my knowledge) NO DRUMBEAT FORWARD MEETUP PARTY! which leaves me wondering, why?
Hi,
I'm Drew Reiff and I'm a community videographer and film maker in San Diego.
I had joined the local extension of the Mozilla Drumbeat project, which is run through NewMediaRights.org (help them!they make a difference!). I was tasked, along with everybody else, to come up with project ideas to be grown and nurtured by the Drumbeaters.
I came up with an idea around last Thanksgiving while listening to an organic farmer on the radio. I decided that it would be great to know what foods were fresh at the Farmers Market, what they cost and where they were available in real time. I was thinking of an informational site on tasty food, nutrition, health and sustainability.
Mera, from New Media Rights called me to ask if I'd a video screen they could use, and I told her about the idea. She got very excited! She said it had to have a mobile app and that I should write it up as a project for, and that she'd be a volunteer.
So I created EAT (EDUCATE. ALIGN. TRANSFORM.) Good Food San Diego.
Everybody I mentioned it to told it it was a service they would use, Everybody.
I felt like I had just been handled the game ball and I ran with it. Drumbeaters liked the project and have supported it with ideas and labor since, even to the extent of featuring the project at the Drumbeat San Diego Live event, where we just had a great day of discussion and action. With more people behind us we moved forward.
Already, we can see the positive effect EAT has had in the community, even though our penetration is still shallow.
Healthy good food is a local thing, and we support the local farmers, CSA's, Markets, food banks, gardeners, good works organizations with our skills.
EDUCATE. ALIGN. TRANSFORM.
EAT believes people need to know about and eat tasty, healthy food. Healthy people make a happier, healthier community.
You can see what we are trying to do explained in the earlier volumes of our blog:
http://eatgoodfood.posterous.com. We believe that we can assist in aligning community as a community to move toward trans formative health goals that will make us a stronger healthier, happier community. We believe in joy.
EAT is very young but we are already out there helping. We need funds, though, when I say that we are self funded, at this point I mean self-funded! I feel like we are rolling with wind at our back but how long can we run without any budget? All our service are free of by suggested donation.
Help me Craig, please.
Thanks so much for taking the time,
Congratulations on the new positive enterprise you are involved in.
As my dog, Koa sez:
Do Good. Feel Well. Be Happy.
Down the Road,
Drew Reiff
