Bulk Arduino purchase?

I've had a couple of microcontroller projects I've been wanting to do,
and I've been thinking that mocking them up with an Arduino would be a
good start. I'm leaning towards the 'Bare Bones Board' clone from
http://moderndevice.com/. Is there enough interest that we might buy
them in quantity, scoring us a bit of a discount and saving on
shipping?

I'll be ordering one fairly soon, one way or the other; I just thought
I'd ask first.

I'm sure we could get 10 people to join in for the class pack.
Everyone can bring their soldering irons, and we could have a basic
class on soldering and the basics of it. Hell, I would jump in just to
get one at the $10 rate.

I have a BBB unassembled sitting right here waiting for an excuse to build.
It has one surface mount (inductor), so it's a slight step-up from a basic
soldering kit.

Count me in for team soldering and for one BBB if you get them in bulk.

I actually bought one of the USB-to-TTL serial cables when I bought my
two, so I can bring that when we have the "class". That way someone
can bring a laptop, and we can upload code to them easily. If you
can't get the numbers for 10, I would also take 2. As soon as I get
them, I think of a project and seem to use one.

    I'd like to buy a BBB with the group, too.
What are people doing for parts? Are we buying the whole kit or is there another source for parts?
    Keith, the SMD inductor shouldn't be hard to solder. You just need to hold it in place with tweezers
(or even just hold it down with a dental probe or one end of needle nose pliers) until you get
one side soldered with an appropriate sized solder tip. The other side is then easy.

Hi - I'd be interested in seeing a surface mount soldering demo, if anyone
is up to the challenge.

@ the bulk purchase, I don't need the BBB right now but I plan to order 10
Boardinos + 12v wall wart transformers in the next week or two so if anyone
wants to get in on that, there is a small price break for 10+ orders.

On a side note - anyone have any case ideas: I am looking for a mounting
solution to mount a PCB @ the size of a deck of cards in the back of a
picture frame (for pieces like this:
http://roypardi.com/Indicator/Indicator0x01/index.html) I'd rather not
mount the naked board so I am looking around for some sort of small plastic
case that I can screw to the back side of the frame.

So, I think I'll go ahead and purchase some BBB kits. It sounds like
I'll be able to find takers if I get ten, unless people are more
interested in the Boardruino. They'll be about $11.70 each.

I have several wall warts that put out between 9 and 14V; these could
be used with the various Arduino clones' on-board regulators. I can
drop them in the trunk o' junk at the gallery. Some don't have coaxial
plugs, but they're easily added.

@ a PCB enclosure approximately the size of a deck of cards... I've
seen actual decks of cards packaged in plastic 'travel cases' that may
work.

Sorry, I misinterpreted the Modern Device site. All of the BBB will
have standard male headers. The phrasing made it sound as if only the
double male headers were an additional cost.

Anyway, here are the people who have requested BBB kits:

That's nine. Did I leave anyone out? If not, does anyone want to speak

Willoughby and Baltic is free every night next week (except the weekends when the actors come in)  if you want to schedule something. The following week it opens back up to the public so there will still be days available, but fewer.
