Hi all,

We’re planning a Hack the Space day on Saturday 17th January, and would really value input from everyone who uses the space.

Specifically, we’d like to know:

  1. What things in the space most need fixing, improving, or refreshing?
This could be equipment, tools, infrastructure, layout issues, maintenance tasks—anything that would make the space work better for you.

  2. What would you personally be willing to help with on the day?
No commitment needed at this stage—just let us know what you feel comfortable helping with, or what you'd like to learn so you can help more in future.

The aim is to make this event as useful and collaborative as possible, and to focus our efforts on what matters most to the community.

Please reply to this thread with your thoughts.

Thanks in advance for your input, and hopefully see you on the 17th!

Hi folks,

A couple of things I have thought of that we could possibly do on Saturday.

1. The shelves near the toilets could do with sorting out. I think it is a while since they were last tidied and we can see if there is anything we can get rid of at the same time.

2. We always need to do more PAT testing, so it would be good to do some of this on the day, as a big part of it is getting things uninstalled and re-installed, which is always easier with a little help.

Regards

Mike Gorman

Sarah and I will be there from Safe Space Merseyside. Agree about the shelves, and we’ll give the events spaces a spruce up too, having trouble picturing the space to think of anything else but we’ll get stuck in with whatever needs doing.

What time is best to show up? 😊 should we bring some cleaning products/cloths etc or do you have a stock?

Hi both

Great to have some more members of our community getting involved!

We'll be there from 10:00 - you can turn up then, or later if you want.

We do have some cleaning materials (and Lidl and Home Bargains are just round the corner), but if you'd like to bring your own, then please do.

See you Saturday

Afternoon,

Sadly I'm not going to make the Hack the Space tomorrow.  Rather than ticking things off the somebody-should list I'll be compiling the adrian-should issue list for my new house :-D

I was hoping to borrow the decorating equipment that's on the shelves near the toilets, so if there's clearing being done, I'd appreciate any rollers/trays/brushes not being stashed too inaccessibly :-)

Cheers,

Adrian.

Hello!

What time is it on until today?
I'm busy until mid afternoon but will come by later on my way through town.

If you are having a clear-out of stuff (especially but not exclusively ) materials, we will be having another Destash event next month.
So before taking things to the tip, can you let me know what's getting chucked in case it's stuff that we could giveaway then instead.

If there's lots of extra people around today, might be a good opportunity to move the low grey shelving from room 29 into the events space, so that we can start using that.

I still can't move heavy things yet post-surgery, but happy to help in whatever ways I can.

See you later,

Much appreciated,
Take care,
Sanna xxx

Hi Sanna (and anyone else who's thinking of coming in to "Hack the Space"!)

It's from 10am - 5pm, so just turn up whenever you want.

Sarah and I will be coming along today, around 1pm.

Probably useful for folk to know I gave the path events space a clean yesterday (vacuum, cleaned all the tables) so that room potentially needs less attention today.

I Plan to spruce up the dinky room and the kitchen a bit. If there’s any other areas that would benefit from a clean or a dust, let me know 😊

Sorry, Looks like I won't make it before the end of the day today.
I am around for Repair Cafe tomorrow though, so happy to carry on then or go through any stuff that's due to get chucked out then.

While I remember...
Does anyone have a spare charger cable for a Dyson V6 handheld vacuum cleaner I can borrow to test if it works?

And/or also have any spare PX 625 cell batteries or alternatives I can try for a Super 8 camera? Or suggest anywhere good to get them from?
It takes 2, but I noticed online that you might be able to replace them with hearing aid batteries instead.
A rechargeable option would be amazing, but any for now would be great. Again to test it out initially.

Got both items super cheap from a house clearance place, look in very good condition. But batteries flat on both, and would love to test them out before ordering replacements online.

Have a lovely evening, see some of you tomorrow.

Much appreciated,
Take care,

Adrian, hope the moving prep is going well!

There’s some fairly sturdy cardboard boxes and a roll of cardboard type packing (like bubble wrap) on the shelves near the more accessible toilet that we found - these any use to you?

I have pictures of them if you like

Hi Sanna,

There’s a black bin bag under the small drawers by the window in the Fibre Arts Room that Snoof and I have sorted. Anything that you don’t want in it can be binned.

Hack the Space Day was a massive success. I was mostly in the fibre arts room so I can't give a full list, but Kris and Sarah did an *enormous* amount of work on the workshop space and cleared out Dinky (Sarah found an ancient nibbled packet of something that had been feeding some rodents). The place is MUCH more accessible! Martin worked on the corner near the toilets and made a huge difference (and braved the ladder to get the shelves). I didn't see what everyone else got up to, but Liz cleared and tidied in the fibre arts room and we made a start on sorting the sewing machines. In the meantime, Chris H made a lot of progress on the Wall of Heroes.

Just a huge thanks to everyone who came and worked at the space (including everyone I didn't mention here, whose work I didn't see! It's all super appreciated!).
