Here are 15 definitions for the word AFFUAGE shared exactly as I received them, but only one is correct. Please send your votes by responding to the Dixonary group with what you believe are two definitions most likely to have come from a dictionary before the deadline, which is TUESDAY, JULY 22, 2025, Eastern Time or the corresponding time where you live! https://www.timeanddate.com Any misspellings, weird spacing, etc., are my fault and not an indication of the accuracy of a particular definition.

Good luck!

From the shape it could be a French verbal noun. But not from a French verb I know, so it would have to be an old word.

Those observations eliminate the verbs: 1, 13–15, and the adjective: 9, and the evidently modern: 2–6, 8. And 7 is undictionarylike.

But if it turns out to be a creative romanization of あ 不 あ げ then my reasoning falls flat.

Even so, I’ll take 11 and 12.

there are two overspills but both refer to modern items and I agree with Paul that this is probably an old word. Without any other reason I'll chose #6 and #7

6. A traditional French method of distressing linen by repeated striking with a wooden mallet.

7. detritus from trimming of trees or bushes, used as fuel for furnaces or stoves.

Looks like it should be 6 since he fully quoted that definition. I hope Tim responds!

No need to apologize, I've done it too. I only asked because it has caused miscounts. Google Mail shows a snippet of the content next to the subject line. If that shows "I vote for x and y", a dealer might be forgiven for looking no further.

Although I see that you sent your votes at 7:06 a.m., I didn't receive them until well after I sent the results, which was at 8:24 a.m. Looking online at the Google Groups Dixonary site, I see that your definitions were received there at 9:47 a.m.

I have no idea why that would have happened and wonder whether dealer points are appropriate when the issue is slow email delivery. HELP!

Judy,

I’m in Kotor, Montenegro, with spotty Internet access. The first time stamp is when I hit Send. The second is when it went out. Not under my control, but not your fault. It was late, period. I don’t expect any special consideration.

And this email arrived almost instantaneously! I'll go with whatever you think unless anyone else has a better idea.

Counting those votes would not change the outcome. It would give me one more point and Efrem two more points. It's up to Mike to include them or not. Either way, no dealer points. It's not as if a def went missing.
