The outcome of this round was in the balance right to the end, and ultimately the winner, Eric Boxer, was declared by the deadline, because the two non-voters might have tipped the balance. His #8, “Petulant conduct following a loss” scored 3 + 2 = 5*. Tony Abell and Dan Widdis were joint runners-up with a score of natural 3.

GAMEGALL is a hapax legomenon: it owes its place in the OED (and so, in this game) to a single 1577 citation, from Holinshed’s Chronicles, a 3-volume history of England, Scotland, and in this case Ireland, that is celebrated because Shakespeare, Marlowe and Spenser mined it for plot material. The OED’s definition is essentially what can be gleaned from the context, and the etymology it proposes is no more than scholarly speculation. I considered offering an alternative, but that, of course, would simply be unscholarly speculation.
