Ten purported definitions of OBSOCKY are presented below.  You know what to do: vote for two without looking it up!

I'll set a voting deadline of 36 hours, but will close as early as 24 hours from now if all submitters have voted, so if you didn't submit and want to participate in this round, don't delay!  That puts the deadline at Thursday October 3 at 8 pm PDT/11 pm EDT, and Friday 03:00 UTC , 4 am BST, 5am CEST, and 4pm NZDT.

*** OBSOCKY ***

1. 1. of objects (esp. clothes), ill-fitting, misshapen. 2. of people, ungainly, overweight. 3. of events, absurd, ridiculous. [? Yoruba obo, monkey + so, to break wind + ki, to greet]

2. A term unique to Maine, meaning klutzy, accident-prone or likely to do something dumb.

3. Indistinct to the sight or other sense; dimly, indistinctly.

4. A clump or tuft, as of growing grass.

5. Wild, unrestrained.

6. awkward, obstinate [Donegal dial.]

7. a fawner or toady; one given to excessive deference.

8. a word only used by a small group of people; a colloquialism.

9. the embarrassment at wearing odd or inappropriate clothes at a formal meeting.

10. an animal behavior in which it curls back its upper lip exposing its front teeth, inhales (with the nostrils often closed), and then may hold this position for several seconds.

I can't see my def here, despite the fact that you acknowledged it. I'll vote for 7 and 8.

          7. a fawner or toady; one given to excessive deference.

          8. a word only used by a small group of people; a colloquialism.

Dangit.  For some reason it was in its own separate email thread and as the first respondent, it scrolled down below an unrelated message and I missed it.

The usual 2 DP for you.

I'll vote 1 & 10 as being long and implausible.

 1. 1. of objects (esp. clothes), ill-fitting, misshapen. 2. of people, ungainly, overweight. 3. of events, absurd, ridiculous. [? Yoruba obo, monkey + so, to break wind + ki, to greet]
