Back in the spring of 2024, the old Dinosaur Mailing List and the Vertpaleo Mailing List were retired by the university hosting both. Thanks to Mike Taylor, Mary Kirkaldy, and Tim Williams, the current Dinosaur Mailing Group on Google replaced the old DML and Eugenia Gold generously took over the Vertpaleo list as vert...@list.drneurosaurus.com.

I continued posting my weekly list of vertpaleo and evolution papers to the recreated Vertpaleo mailing list and generally received positive comments. I also have been cross-posting the lists on the Dinosaur Mailing Group, where they are now also archived.  In addition, I BCC a number of people who are not on either list.

This last weekend the Vertpaleo mailing list abruptly went offline for good. I contacted Eugenia Gold and learned that all the addresses for people on that list cannot be retrieved, so anyone on the mailing list who is not also on the Dinosaur Mailing Group will not get the weekly lists of free papers unless they are aware of the Google Groups archive or they contact me to be added to the BCC group.

I will continue posting the weekly free papers list on the DMG. Whether some iteration of the former Vertpaleo lists will be revived is not clear for now. Eugenia Gold has suggested the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology could somehow host the list, but any details are uncertain at present. Suggestions and ideas are welcome.

I don't know the details, unfortunately. I sent out my weekly list and got a message from Gmail that the address could not be found. I contacted Eugenia Gold and there appears to be no way to fix the issue or retrieve the individual addresses that were on the Vertpaleo list.

It appears that we were prescient when we kept the two lists separate.

We currently have 714 subscribers to the DMG, and I just downloaded the subscriber list for safekeeping.

Group, let me know if you need anything -- I'm a software engineer by trade and I'd be happy to assist with any software needs this group needs. It's unfortunate the other list was lost, although I suspect the Google Groups won't suffer from such a catastrophic loss.

Ben Creisler:

I wish to be added to the BCC group.

Thank you.
