With folks asking for refs from my chapter on metabolics dinosaurian and otherwise in the Complete Dinosaur 2nd edition, Brett-Surman M, Holtz T, Farlow J 2012, Indiana Univ Press Indianapolis, and it being an extensive examination of the subject that many do not know about, went ahead and built a pdf that is attached and hopefully can be downloaded. Was not fun scanning the thing.
The specific section on dinosaur etc. growth starts on p. 845 and cites the pertinent refs.
The first time I mentioned the issue is in Appendix 4 in Dinosaurs of the Air 2002, no additional refs are there.
Will be interesting to see what folks think of the publications indicating multi-annual rings in birds and other tetrapods -- there may be work published since 2012. The new Woodward et al paper notes other issues with counting rings. Is not looking great for using bone growth cessations to count the years in dinosaurs, and I am getting reluctant to try to restore curves.
