Hi everyone.

Just wondering, for those who have seen a good amount of Triceratops specimens, how big is LACM 59049 relatively? I personally think that its skull inside the glass case in the musem's Dinosaur Hall is the largest Triceratops skull I've ever seen, but have yet to find it being mentioned in any paper/book.

And as a side note, I think Apex the Stegosaurus looks surprisingly average-sized, for those who've seen it.

Thanks for answers, as always.

On Apex, I don’t know if you saw the original when it was mounted or the new cast on display, but if it was the original then I think it had to do with it being mounted on the floor. All of the other stegosaur mounts I’ve seen (AMNH, Yale, Carnegie, Smithsonian, Fukui) have been displayed on raised platforms of varying heights. Personally the one that “feels” the largest to me is the new Yale mount, but I think that’s more a testament to the perspective than the actual size of the animal.

Of course, if you’ve only seen the cast I believe that’s on a raised platform as well, which makes my point moot.

I meant the original AMNH Apex, yes. And interesting observation, but while the exhibit's elevation might play a small role, I don't think it affect things much for me visually.
