Hello All,
Many developments in Dillingham since we have had a CANDU meeting. Several people who participated in CANDU in 2008-2010 and in the wellness workgroup for the City’s Comprehensive plan in 2010 met on April 14 to discuss how to carry the comprehensive plan forward in implementation/action phase. The city planning commission would like the CANDU group to work together to implement their plan. Many of us noted that the goals and strategies of the city are already being accomplished and we should reconvene with some homework done to discuss where we are and how to proceed. With the monies SAFE received for the communities prevention efforts, we discussed how inclusive the process will be and hope to attract all agencies and people to the table. We refreshed our memories on the CANDU vision and 4 goals which are as follows:
Dillingham is a healthy, diverse, culturally empowered community.
· Dillingham has prevention systems that connect community members and organizations across the lifespan.
· Dillingham youth are fulfilled and empowered within themselves, their family, their schools and community.
· Dillingham has community-wide expectations and norms that promote respect, equality and peace.
· People of Dillingham are connected to the environment.
We all left with a homework assignment to fill in as many items under the goals and strategies that are being met by your agency, coalition, family or that you know about in the community. The table with the city’s goals are attached above for your use. Please add rows under each goal/or strategy where you have information. Please submit your work to me or Bernina Venua by 5pm on May 17. We will compile a comprehensive list and share it at the May 18 meeting at city hall at 4pm. See you there. Rachel – I’m confused by the comments….there are old edits from Heather (of Agnew Beck) as well as come that look like yours…..we should keep the reviewer’s initials so we can understand this….isn’t there some type of program that we can all use to edit the same document without getting confused?
