Hi Patrick and all:
First, please accept my apologies for not getting back to you all sooner. My only excuse is that it’s been pretty busy. I talked to Patrick via telephone this afternoon and with this email want to also communicate with others that were expecting to hear from me. I should have contacted you early last week but lost track of time.
I have not convened the working group yet because I wanted to delay until our new manger, Dan Forster, arrives. He is scheduled to be on the job on August 30.
I communicated with Dan about some of the ongoing projects, this one included. We agreed that the best way to proceed for this one would be to wait to convene this working group after he is here. That way he can fully participate and he has some ideas for facilitating the sessions as well. I think it’s a wise move since he is the one that inherits implementation in the future J
Dan has a lot of experience in rural Alaska which will be a great value in this effort too.
You can count on hearing from Dan or me sometime after August 30. He’ll need a little time to get his feet wet and then we’ll contact you about coming together.

I understand that there is a council meeting tonight. Can you find some members who would serve on the committee exploring the parks and rec commission? Perhaps a meeting time could be determined. I'm available during the day and some eves. Perhaps a lunch meeting?

Thought about the Parks and Rec meeting this morning too. I’ll get it set up and communicate with you in the next couple of days.
FYI - Don completed his contract and left on Friday. He would have extended his contract but his nephew suffered a medical emergency and Don wanted to go to be with his brother. In the meantime, we’re happy that Carol Shade, our Finance Director will also act as the Interim City Manager until August 30, when our newly hired manager, Dan Forster, will begin work.
I’ll include Carol on this email in order to keep her appraised of our progress.

Kathy Mclinn, Jennifer Gardiner and I are interested in working throught the Parks and Rec Commission details. I will be out of town from 7/5-7/15 and I know Jennifer is gone early August. Perhaps there could be a meeting in the last half of July. Do we know who the council members to sit on the committee will be. Bob and/or Tim?

I’ll make sure that we stay in touch. I suspect that the invitation will come from City Hall. I don’t believe I’m going to be able to make appointments till late this week or early next week as we’re going to be involved in Interviews for our City Manager. That combined with regular work schedule is going to prevent us from getting started right away.
In anticipation of beginning to work, do you want to suggest a couple of people that you’d like to be on this working group with you? I’d like to keep it small and manageable.

Let me know when the first meeting is to address the Parks and Rec code and the development of the Commission. My schedule is fairly open during the day and eve but I will probably be out of town around 7/10-7/20. Meanwhile I'll be looking over the code to suggest changes.
