to Diabetes
This isn't a question, just sharing some recent experiences. I have
had type-1 diabetes since I was 12 years old (I'm 40 now). In that
time, I've had some pretty bad reactions, although I've always known
the cause (taking insulin twice, forgetting to eat, etc...etc...).
I've had two in the past year that were seizures. They were both my
fault as well. The first time, I took my morning bolus with my pump,
forgot I did it, and did it again; the second time, Christmas
morning, I took my bolus, and then forgot to eat.
These were the first seizures I've had. The first time was at work,
and my coworkers found me and called 911. They managed to get some
sugar in me, but I had already chewed my tongue up pretty good. That
hurt for a long time.
Unfortunately, and fortunately, my 8 year old son found me on
Christmas morning and got my wife. I had pounded my face into the
bathroom floor several times and was quite bloody. I say
unfortunately, because he is quite traumatized. He won't let me out
of his sight, and is constantly asking me about my blood sugar. It
breaks my heart that he is so worried about me. I'm really trying
twice as hard to be careful now.
