An object of negation.
An object for refutation, or that, which is to be disproved in a
logical argument.

The two objects of refutation.

1.Refutation on the path of practice.
2.Refutation through logical anlysis.

The self to be refuted.
The self to be refuted, the direct opposite of selflessness to be
explicitly negated when one realizes the tru selflessness.

The two kinds of self to be refuted.
1. Self of person.
2. Self of phenomenon.

Meaning generality or generic image of an object to be refuted.

The two extremes.
1.Extreme of eternalism.
2.Extreme of nihilism.

Selflessness.
The view of selflessness or lack of an identity of independently
existing phenomenon.

There are two types.
1. The selflessness of person.
2. The selflessness of phenomena.

Selflessness of person.
In its highest sense it is the lack of inherent existence of person.
Accoording to the Vaibhasika, Sautrantukas, Cittamatrins and
Svatrantikas selflessness of person is either the non-existence of a
permanent, single, independent person or the non-existence of a self-
sufficient substantially existent person. According to Prasangika the
selflessness of person is either non-existence of a self-sufficient
substantially existent person or non-existence of an inherently
existent person.


Coarse selflessness of person.
According to the Vaibhasika, Sautrantikas, Cittamatrins and
Svatantikas the coarse selflessness of person is the non-existence of
permanent, single, independent person, and according to Prasangika it
is the non-existence of self-sufficient substantially existent person.

Subtle selflessness of person.
According to the Vaibhasikas, Sautrantikas, Cittamatrins and
Svatantrikas it is the non-existence of self-sufficient substantially
existent person. According to Prasangika it is the non-inherently
existent person.

Selflessness of phenomena.
It is highest sense it is the lack of inherent existence of phenomena
other than persons. there are two types-the gross and subtle
selflessness of phenomena.

Two types of graspings at self; the conceptual misapprehension of
truly existent self of either a person or a phenomenon.

1.Intellectual grasping at the self.
2.Innate grasping at self.

Grasping at the self of person.
The Misconception of the self of person as being truly existent. The
perverted conception of a person being inherently existent.

It has two kinds:
1. Innate grasping at the self of person.
2. Intellectual grasping at the self of person

Grasping at the self of phenomena.
The misconception of phenomena as having tru existence.

It has two kinds:
1. Innate grasping at the self of phenomena.
2. Intellectual grasping at the self of phenomena.
