From the Office of Detroit City Council Member Saunteel Jenkins,

Wanted!: Sophomores for Michigan Youth Leadership Conference (May 18th-20th, 2012) There's still time to nominate!

Michigan Youth Leadership, or MYLead for short, is incorporated in the state of Michigan as a non-profit organization for the purpose of developing leadership potential in the youth of Michigan.

The primary program offered by MYLead is an annual youth leadership conference.  The 2012 MYLead conference will be Friday morning, May 18 through Sunday afternoon, May 20 on the campus of Michigan State University.  Nomination forms for the MYLead Conference are sent to nearly four-hundred and seventy-five high schools across the state and can be accessed on the MyLead website at www.mylead.org . MYLead is focused completely on providing youth leadership programs within the state of Michigan.

MYLead fulfills its mission of developing future leaders by hosting an annual leadership conference for high school sophomores. Attendees at the conference have the opportunity to interact and exchange dialogue with community, business, and civic leaders from throughout Michigan.

The MYLead process begins each fall, when nomination packets are sent to MYLead representatives (generally counselors or school administrators) at high schools across Michigan. While each school is responsible for establishing its specific selection criteria, nomination is generally based on outstanding achievements and leadership potential. The selection process may include an essay, panel interviews, or selection by the school's nominating committee. Each school nominates one attendee. In the event the primary nominee cannot attend, an alternate is also chosen. MYLead Conference nominees are considered to be among the "brightest and best" of their class.

The objectives of the MYLead Conference are to provide useful leadership tools to each school's nominee, and empower the individual to go back and put these tools to work in their school and community. Benefits to MYLead participants include:

Leadership Skill Enhancement.

Critical Thinking Development.

Creative Problem-Solving.

Positive Peer Interaction.

If you're interested in nominating a sophomore please feel free to give me a call with any questions.

Thanks,

Brandon Ivory
