Hi all--
Last week I forwarded to you information about this great May 23 event
being hosted in Detroit by The Nation and the progressive Institute
for Policy Studies (IPS) this Saturday at Cobo Hall from 5-7 pm--
Karen Dolan, who is the lead coordinator for the event, has requested
the assistance of some local volunteers for the event, and it would be
great if we could help her out (see below). I have volunteered, and
it would be great if one or two others from our network could assist--
I know this is short notice, but if you can manage a few hours on
Saturday, or were planning to attend the event anyway, please consider
volunteering, and let me know if you are willing to help out.
The Detroit Community Organizing Network will be listed as a co-
sponsor of the event along with several other local groups including
Centro Obrero and Michigan Welfare Rights....
Cheers to all,
Shawn

Shawn, fyi--this may be something the Network might be able to help
with? I had sent it to the folks below. Haven't heard back yet. I know
everyone is WAY overcommitted already, but if there were a couple of
folks you could think of who would enjoy playing this volunteer role
at the event, it would be ever-so-helpful!! best, karen

Dear All,
I have a request for a couple of volunteers who might be able to help
me with logistics such as signing in press and attendees, passing out
question cards, collecting them, ushering folks around, etc. I'm not
sure if you all know it or not, I am a bit disabled by MS. I can walk,
but very short distances (less than a block) and with a cane; I have
to rely on a wheelchair in airports where long distances must be
travelled quickly, etc. I can't easily run from office to office or
from hotel to Cobo Hall for instance, back and forth. And it turns out
that my intern will be unable to come to Detroit. I need help thinking
about how to get press materials, etc to the Hall, how to keep track
of press that is there, how to pass out and collect question and
answer cards, etc. I will need to sit for good portions of the event.
I imagine your orgs are understaffed as it is, but might there be a
person or two that might be able to help for the event? Please let me
know,
Thanks so much,
Karen
