Micheal,
A good way to start would be to get involved with one of the
organizing efforts going on in the City-- Take a look at some of the
info we've posted on the Google group site about the MOSES Grocery
Store work, and City of HOPE, and I'd recommend you sign up for the
City of HOPE weekly calendar on their website, which will keep you
informed about ongoing community org-related events in the City--
There's also the ongoing organizing for the US Social Forum, which you
could get linked into-- since this is major national effort, there
will be plenty to do if you're interested in the Social Forum--
If you'd be interested in community gardening work, check out the
Greening of Detroit's programs and volunteer opportunities--
And also check out the work of MI Welfare Rights, which is a great org
for work to support the basic human rights of Detroit residents to
water, healthy food, and housing...
Hope this helps--
cheers,
Shawn
The Network will also be organizing future events as well, which will
be posted here, so please join us at next event, which will be a
networking party @ 5:30 on July 23-- more info will be posted later--

Without effective community organizing as a foundation, there can be
neither strong communities nor good policymaking.
