Meeting Reminder:
DETROIT COMMUNITY ORGANIZING NETWORK
Discussion of Network Principles & Potential Organizing Activities,
including possibility of a 2009 Summer Detroit Community Organizing
Summit--
The location for this Thursday's (May 7) Network meeting @ 3-5pm is:
First Unitarian-Universalist Church of Detroit
4605 Cass Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201
http://www.1stuu.org/
For directions and parking information, please see--
http://www.1stuu.org/parking.php
*There is plenty of parking space in the Church's Prentis Lot: Owned
by the church, this lot is on the south side of Prentis (one block
south of Forest) between Cass and 2nd Avenue. It may be used for
church parking at all hours.
The AGENDA for the May meeting will include discussion of the
attached Draft statement of Principles, and other items as decided
by the group--
I would like to bring back to the table for discussion the question of
whether we want to coordinate some kind of Detroit Community
Organizing Event/Summit for later this summer, to build on the work of
the Allied Media Conference in June, and provide a key venue for
building our network of community organizers--
Again, Previous meeting summaries, the Discussion draft of Network
principles, and other group messages and materials are available on
the Network's Google Group
at:
http://groups.google.com/group/DetroitComOrgNet
The Google group site also provides a forum for discussion of issues
related to the Network between meetings--
Cheers to all,
Shawn

Without effective community organizing as a foundation, there can be
neither strong communities nor good policymaking.
