Hi all--

At our first Thursday May 7 meeting last month, we discussed options
for postponing our June meeting until this Thursday, the 11th, because
some of us were not available for a meeting last week--

However, because of all the conferences going on this month--
including the Allied Media conference and several Green conferences, I
would like to suggest we take a break this month from our in-person
meeting, and take time this month to strengthen our network.

To facilitate this process, I would like to request a few minutes of
time from each of you for a brief one-on-one via phone to discuss your
perspectives on the network, and to request your suggestions on where
you would like to see the network go from here.

I will then compile this information from my discussions with you, for
sharing with the group at the next monthly meeting in July--

We also discussed on May 7 the possibility of directing our work over
the rest of the summer toward organizing a Detroit Community
Organizing Summit for the early Fall, so I will also be interested in
your views on this when we talk.

Lastly, Danielle Atkinson, the Field Director for Michigan Voice
attended our May meeting, and has suggested that the Detroit
organizing table for Michigan Voice is interested in collaborating
with the Network for projects like the Community Organizing Summit.
Danielle has also invited members of the Network to participate in
meetings of the Detroit's Michigan Voice organizing table.

There will be a meeting of the Detroit table of Michigan Voice the
last week of this month, which you are invited to attend, so stay
tuned for an announcement of this meeting time and location--

In order to contact you at a convenient time, would you please email
me (at skim...@gmail.com, or leave a voicemail message at
734-572-2567) several convenient times for me to reach you by phone,
and please provide your contact phone number? Thank you, and I look
forward to talking with you--

cheers,

Shawn

One correction to the message below: the Allied Media conference is
being held July 16-19, not this month. I would therefore like us to
consider how we might support the work of the Allied Media conference
next month--

cheers to all,

Shawn

Shawn, Dannielle is an excellent contact to help move the group along, as well as Frank Houston whom you shared a table with at the Policy Summit last month.

Hi Shawn,
I am sorry that I have not been more available. I am very busy this month working on several things with church and MOSES. I am in the process of planning a MOSES action for 6/17 in Lansing and 6/24/in DC. I will also be out of town from 6/18/to 6/22 and that is just the tip of the iceberg! I will let you know when would be a good time for me to chat with you.
Peace,
Jackie

No problem Jackie-- I certainly understand, and if it would be easier
for you to respond by email, we can work that way-- Lila suggested we
put together a list of a few key questions, which we'll get sent out
to everyone by email, and then folks can respond by whatever means is
most convenient for them--

best of luck with all your great work for MOSES-- I attended the
grocery store meeting, which was a great success-- that meeting
presented a great model for a well-organized community strategy around
one of our key issues of healthy food access--

cheers,

Shawn

Without effective community organizing as a foundation, there can be
neither strong communities nor good policymaking.
