If there's room, I could give a quick update on 501(c)4 registration.
  • Thank you to everyone who pledged to support the DSNC, we should be covered for the initial application + setting up a bank account / etc
  • The current plan is to file as a 501(c)(4). The one new drawback for (c)(4) over (c)(3) I learned is that (c)(3)'s get some free stuff, such as free web hosting / google drive / a few other things.
  • Trying to figure out Tufts thing - I, along with several other people reached out. I never got a response, someone did (?) and Tuft's response was confusing. What's the deal with renting rooms at Tufts?
  • For the application:
    • At this point, I believe I have all the files organized that I think we'll need for registration / have an outline of a plan drafted + the gist of a plan for annual reports
    • We'll want to file right after we seat the new board. The members of the board appear on the documents / we don't want to need to file a "notice of change of board" with the state.
    • There are a few procedural things the board needs to do for the application (i.e. declare "we want to be a (c)(4)", have a vote on it, and have that recorded in the minutes).
  • My next steps for the next month are:
    • See if we can figure out the Tufts thing
    • Get all the various forms pre-filled out to the extent I can
    • Determine where we want to bring in a lawyer. Our current "pro-bono" option still costs us some money, makes me think we should get all our ducks in a row before getting to that stage / just use them as confirmation we are doing everything correctly.
