Davis Contra Dance 8:00 PM @ Davis High School (315 W 14th St.), Dance Room

Americans have been contra dancing ever since the early colonists adapted lively dances from the English countryside to their new homes from New England to Southern Appalachia. Contra dance has since evolved into a modern American folk dance tradition which is popular in college towns throughout the U.S. because it is fun, easy, a great way to meet friendly people, and it is driven by upbeat live music, based in Celtic and old time traditions.

These dances will be appropriate for beginners and experienced dancers alike. Wear comfortable, light-weight clothing and shoes with clean leather or non-marking soles (no grit or stones from outside).

8-11pm with beginner's lesson at 7:30pm
Suggested donation: general admission $10, students $5, family maximum $25
Band: Old Snakey's Bluegrass Ramblers, Caller: Mavis McGaugh
