We watched Knowing with Nicholas Cage last night. I didn't expect
much. At one point I didn't really like Nicholas Cage much, but he's
won me over. I like most of his recent movies. I liked Knowing a lot.
Can't really say much without spoiling the plot. The special effects
are incredible, but it's not really a sfx movie. A good thriller.
Spots of violence, but not the psycho/evil kind of violence. I gave it
5 stars. Our son says he's buying it. My wife had her feet on the
couch (her reaction to scary movies).

We watched Born Yesterday today on instant Netflix. It's a 1950 B&W
movie with Broderick Crawford, Judy Holliday, and William Holden. It
was hilarious and very fast paced. We like classic movies and I gave
this 5 stars. I can't imagine this movie being made today because I
don't know of anyone could pull off these characters without seeming
campy. But I enjoyed it a lot.

We watched a movie last week and I thought of Linda and family. It's
called Bottle Shock and stars Alan Rickman. It purports to be 'based
on a true story' of how California wine came into it's own. Very
entertaining if you like wine or even if you don't.

Now I have this song stuck in my head, and a burning desire to watch
Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Again.

We watched the movie Man In The White Coat tonight. It's a 1951 movie
with Alec Guinness as the star. It's an unusual combination of comedy,
labor and economics. and science. Very funny and interesting. Unknown
to me before I ordered it. I gave it 5 stars Not available as an
instant watch from Netflix.

Before that we watched the movie Lawn Dogs. It stars Sam Rockwell, (a
young) Mischa Barton and other familiar faces. It's a story of
friction between culture on both sides of the tracks and friendship.
It teeters in directions you don't want it to go. If you watch it,
make sure you watch it all the way to the end. You'll understand why.
Adult themes.

I watched the indie movie "Into Temptation," about a Catholic priest
who learns that a high ticket call girl is going to commit suicide and
feels compelled to do something about it, despite the fact that would
have to break rules of the church to do so. Kristin Chenowith and
Jeremy Sisto both turn in excellent performances.

A few nights ago I watched "Henry Poole is Here," an excellent
parabolic film. Luke Wilson stars. It didn't get a lot of favorable
critic reviews, but I think that's because they tried to take the
movie literally, rather than as a parable or metaphor, which I suspect
is what was intended.

Oh yeah, don't tell anyone, but I also watched "Paul Blart: Mall Cop"
too. It made me laugh a few times, but I still go back to "Tommy Boy"
when I want some cheap, low-brow laughs.

Into Temptation is in our queue. We've liked Kristin Chenowith since
West Wing. She did a Glee (guilty TV pleasure) recently. She has a
very vibrant personality.

We just watched Blue Juice. An English surfing movie (yes English). It
from 1995, which doesn't seem that long ago, but Katherine Zeta Jones
is in it and looks young. Not a bad movie. Entertaining.

The other night we watched Meet John Doe with Gary Cooper and Barbara
Stanwyck. A big idea inspirational movie by Frank Capra and a cousin
to his classics, Lost Horizon and It's A Wonderful Life. I loved it
and gave it 5 stars.

We went to a genuine movie theater last night to see New Moon! Our
daughter first started reading the books in an effort to get her step
daughter to read. That didn't work out so well, but she did get my
wife and I to read all 4 books. The movie wasn't too bad. Better than
the first one. The books are much better. It was funny when all the
teen girls in the theater (and there were lots) screamed when the male
leads would take off their shirts. I haven't seen that reaction in a
while.

Have you seen Avatar? I thought it was pretty amazing, from a
technical and special effects standpoint. Sadly, for the money
invested, for how much it cost to make, and for how many tickets were
sold, I thought the writing was kind of marginal. Too much of the
dialogue made me feel like rolling my eyes. I'm probably growing weary
of big epic battles too. Maybe I'm just getting old. HaHa. :-)

We've talked a little about this at Facebook, but I could have lived
without the final battle, but thought it was excellent..

Van Winkles, the cover band that David plays in every once in a while is
back in Key West this week. Check out the webcam at the Hog's Breath
for the ten o'clock show from now through Sunday.

Wouldn't you know it, we will be getting to Key Largo late Sunday
evening. We will miss being able to reach a show by one day.
Still this webcam is a good warmup for us to our Florida getaway.
